When Light Becomes an Extension of Art
RICHE meets Angelos Antonopoulos | AFFINITIES
Where Art Meets Light
Light does more than reveal a work of art. It can become part of it, extending its boundaries and creating new forms within space.
This creative relationship lies at the heart of RICHE’s contribution to “Architecture in Greece – The Mystical Language of Form,” an exhibition hosted at the historic Athens Public Tobacco Factory.
Through the lighting design of Angelos Antonopoulos’ sculptural installations, RICHE approaches light not as a complementary element of display, but as an active part of the artistic experience.
A Second, Intangible Architecture
In the work of Angelos Antonopoulos, architecture becomes a field of artistic exploration. Recognizable forms of buildings, monuments, and symbols are reimagined as fragile, suspended structures, where matter, memory, and decay coexist.
RICHE’s lighting design brings this distinctive visual language to life, revealing intricate details, textures, and material contrasts.
The resulting shadows do more than mirror the sculptures. Projected onto the surfaces of the historic building, they acquire a presence of their own, extending the artworks beyond their physical boundaries.
Alongside the tangible structures, a second, intangible architecture emerges. An architecture of light and shadow that shifts with the viewer's position and perspective.
Lighting as a Form of Artistic Expression
Within this installation, lighting design moves beyond the conventional purpose of illuminating an exhibit.
The interplay of light and shadow intensifies the dramatic character of the forms, emphasizes the fragility of the structures, and establishes a continuous dialogue between the artwork, the viewer, and the surrounding space.
Light becomes a medium of interpretation. Shadow becomes a new form of expression.
For RICHE, this is the essence of lighting design: the ability to transform perception, evoke emotion, and introduce new narrative dimensions to architecture and art.
Because every form has its own light. And every shadow, its own story.
